Recently, the results of the tenth “Mother River Award” selection jointly launched by eight ministries and commissions including the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Water Resources, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs were announced.
Shandong University of Finance and Economics “Jihuhao·Qiluqing” college student environmental protection volunteer service team project won the 10th “Mother River Award” Green Project Award.Twenty projects across the country have won this honor, including 8 college projects.
Li Haitian, a student of the “Future Partner” innovation experimental class and undergraduate student in the Resource and Environmental Economics of the School of Economics, is the team leader of the “Jihuhao·Qiluqing”. Jihuhao Qiluqing is a volunteer service team for environmental protection by the undergraduates. It relies on the “Three Thousand Plan” of college students’ social practice and combined the enthusiasm of college students’ going to the countryside with the professionalism of finance and economics focusing on the provinces along the Yellow River. Moreover, the team carried out field surveys, education, and publicity activities for many years, to contribute to the strength of the youth for ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River.
The team paid attention to the non-point source pollution caused by agricultural wastes such as straws, and visited 93 government units including the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Shandong Province, 410 straw utilization companies including Deyi Dairy, 228 straw brokers, and 2676 straw farmers to organize interviews. It recorded 665,000 words of the interview and formed a high-quality research report.The report won the third prize of the 17th “Challenge Cup” National College Students Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, and the bronze medal of the 14th College Student Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition.At the same time, the team actively went to rural areas to support education, organized interesting scientific experiments, interesting cultural and sports activities, etc., influencing more than 7,000 young people with its practice.The team’s deeds have been reported many times by the China Youth Daily, Toutiao News, Qilu Evening News and other media.
The “Mother River Award” is sponsored by the Leading Group of the National Action for the Protection of the Mother River (Yellow River). The Award aims to commend and reward individuals, collectives, organizations and projects that have made outstanding contributions to the protection of the Mother River, the protection of the ecological environment, and the construction of ecological civilization, so as to guide young people to actively participate in the construction of a beautiful China and practice and promote the ecological civilization.
