On September 30, the opening ceremony for the 2021 undergraduates of Shandong University of Finance and Economics (SDUFE) was held in Shengjing Campus. SDUFE President Zhao Zhongxiu, Han Zuosheng, deputy secretary of SDUFE party committee, Vice President Chen Xiaolan, Zhang Shuxue, Zhang Xin, Zhang Peiguo, Tao Hu, Wang Fudai, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervisory Commissioner of the Shandong Provincial Supervision Commission in Shandong University of Finance and Economics, Fang Xu, alumni of 1988 major in planning statistics, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Bank of Beijing Jinan Branch, Professor Shen Wanfang, a representative of teachers and the leader of the youth innovation team in Shandong universities, attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Tao Hu.
8 vertical banners with white text on a red background were showcased in the event.The banners read:“Born in a prosperous age, shouldering heavy responsibilities, we’re young and vigorous”, “We shoulder the responsibility of building the country”, “Keep sunshine in mind, walk with brave strides”, “Keep brief in mind, ride the wind and waves”.The melody of the schoolsong “Dream Blossoms” floated over the track and field, and the atmosphere was lively and warm.
At 9:30 in the morning, everyone stood up, raised the national flag and sang the national anthem. After the flag-raising ceremony, the opening ceremony for the 2021 undergraduates of Shandong University of Finance and Economics officially began.
Wang Jian, Minister of the Student Work Department, Student Affairs Office, and Armed Forces Department of SDUFE party committee, read the “Decision on Recognizing Advanced Collectives and Advanced Individuals in Military Training in 2021”.18 advanced collectives and 602 advanced individuals were commended. The commended representatives were full of joy and took the stage one by one to receive the awards, and there were bursts of applause from time to time.
The faculty representative Shen Wanfang shared her learning and life experiences and encouraged the students to always be grateful, pursue the truth unremittingly, and live up to their youth.As a teacher, she is willing to work with all students to harvest knowledge, growth, and success, abide by the school motto of “Always be virtuous, Learn from the world”, and jointly write the beautiful chapter of Shandong University of Finance and Economics.
Alumni representative Fang Xu talked about his gratitude to the motherland, the times, and alma mater, and shared his growing experience and insights: Study hard to live up to your youth; unity of knowledge and action to broaden your horizons; learn to self-discipline and benefit for life. He wished all the undergraduates success in their studies and a bright future, and wished the alma mater be better in the future.
On behalf of the School of Finance and Taxation, 2018 major in Finance Wang Zhengqi, and the freshman representative of the School of Accounting 2021, Business Administration student Liu Yang respectively gave speeches.
Amidst a warm round of applause, President Zhao Zhongxiu delivered a wonderful speech entitled “Four Years of University, A lifetime of University”.On behalf of faculty, students and staff of SDUFE, he extended a warm welcome to the 6,617 new students, and sincere congratulations to everyone for their excellent results in entering the Shandong University of Finance and Economics.
Zhao Zhongxiu said that at the historical moment of the 70th anniversary of SDUFE, the students became members of Shandong University of Finance and Economics family. The university is jointly established by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and Shandong Province.After nearly 70 years of hard work, we already have a talent training system that integrates undergraduates, masters, and doctors, Postdoctoral Research Station in Applied Economics, 4 first-level doctoral degree authorization points—Applied Economics, Business Administration, Management Science and Engineering, and Statistics, 11 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, 20 authorized types of master’s degree, and 3 Shandong Province project-approved first-class disciplines: Applied Economics, Management Science and Engineering, and Business Administration.The overall discipline strength has placed SDUFE in the top 10 financial universities in the country, and it is movingto be recognized as a first-class financial universitywith characteristicsin the country.The university has educated more than 200,000 outstanding graduates from all walks of life, contributing to the country and local economic and social development.
Zhao Zhongxiu has three hopes for the 2021 freshmen. He said: “First, we must cultivate the ambition of a lifetime and work for national prosperity, national rejuvenation, and people’s happiness. In the past 100 years, the Chinese Communists Party have led the people of all ethnic groups across the country to achieve a great leap from standing up, getting rich, to becoming strong.In the great new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way, we must learn from history, create a future, and write a new chapter in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Facing the great changes in the world unseen in a century and the overall strategy of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, everyone of us need to work hard for the national progress by contributing to our nation while following the trend of the times. Second, we need to establish ideals and beliefs with a heart of worrying about the country and the people, patriotism and love for the people, noble character, unity of morality and behavior. We’re supposed to light up the sky of humankind with benevolence and kindness. Besides, we need to strictly restrain our own ethics and behavior, be brave to take responsibilities and be enthusiastic for public welfare. Third is to master the current major. Only by seeking the truth and practicing the true skills can we realize the dream of life in the temper of youth. Zhao Zhongxiu hoped that students will adapt as soon as possible and realize the transition from high school to university, from passive learning to active learning. All of the freshmen must work hard every day, think in-depth, ask frequently, analyze problems from different angles, and make efforts to maintain a keen insight, judgment, and perception.Besides, all the freshmen should learn to recognize, know themselves and others, get close to the world, respect and understand differences, maintain self-discipline and make pursuing excellence as a habit.”
Zhao Zhongxiu also wished students to have a diversified and colorful life in SDUFE and strive to grow into pioneering talents of the era who can shoulder the important task of national rejuvenation.
