On September 9, Clarivate Analytics released the latest basic scientific indicator data,Electronically Stored Information (ESI), from January 1, 2011 to June 30, 2021.The number of universities in China on the list is 408 (345 in Chinese mainland, Taiwan 53, Hong Kong 8, Macau 2).Shandong colleges and universitiescontributedthreedisciplinesin the top 1% of the ESI—Computer Science at Shandong University of Finance and Economics, Environment and Ecology at Jinan University, and Environment and Ecology at Qingdao University.

The computing sciencesof Shandong University of Finance and Economics has entered the top 1% of ESI disciplines, indicating that it has joined the ranks of internationally acclaimed high-level disciplines. It is an important, newly acquired achievement in the discipline construction of the School of Computer Science and Technology, following its entry into the “world-class discipline” of Shanghai Soft Science in 2020-2021.This is also the second discipline of SDUFE to enter the top 1% of ESI, after Engineering. It is another important breakthrough that SDUFE has made in the beginning of the “14th Five-Year Plan” year.

ESI collects papers and citation data published by Science Citation Index Expanded(SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index(SSCI) in more than 12,000 academic journals in the past ten years. It is widely representative and has been universally recognized worldwide. The ESI indicator is used to evaluate the scientific research level of a university (or institution), and even predict Nobel prize winners through the evaluation on ESI highly cited scientists. The Initiative of Double First-class Construction of Universities in China also generally regard the number of subjects of ESI to enter the world’s top one percent or one thousandth as a goal.
