SDUFE Achieved Excellent Results in the 2021 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling

A few days ago, it was learned from the Shandong Provincial Organizing Committee of Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) that 76 teams from SDUFE participated in the 2021 national competition and won a total of 34 awards, of which 1 national first prize was recommended and 2 national second prizes were recommended, 9 provincial first prizes, 10 provincial second prizes, and 12 provincial third prizes.

CUMCMstarted in1992 and is co-sponsored by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. It is currently the largest scientific and technological innovation activity for college students in China and the world. The competition is held in early September each year and lasts for 3 days. A team consisting of 3 players is required to comprehensively use the theories, methods and techniques of mathematics, computer and other related disciplines, and choose from two application topics closely related to production and life practice then give the relevant solution and submit an answer sheet in the form of an academic paper.

Among the two competition questions this year, Question A, “FAST Active Reflector Shape Adjustment,” is aimed at China's "Sky Eye" (500-meter spherical radio telescope). It is required to determine an ideal parabola under the adjustment constraints of the reflective panel and adjust the reflective surface to a working parabola by adjusting the radial expansion and contraction of the actuator to make it as close to the ideal parabola as possible to obtain the best receiving effect of celestial electromagnetic waves reflected by the reflecting surface.Question B, “Ethanol Coupling to Produce C4 Olefins,” requires experimental data to study the effects of different catalyst combinations and temperatures on the ethanol conversion rate and C4 olefin selectivity.Based on this, they need to choose the best catalyst combination and temperature to make the yield of C4 olefins as high as possible under the same experimental conditions;Question C, “Ordering and Transportation of Raw Materials for Production Enterprises,” requires the candidates to select 50 most important suppliers from 402 suppliers, and under the conditions of specific trends in ordering raw materials, reducing transshipment and warehousing costs, and reducing transshipment losses to formulate the optimal ordering and transshipment plan.

In the course of the competition, all the team members analyzed the questions in detailwithreasonable assumptions and scientific modeling and carried forward the modeling competition spirit of “endure hardships and hard work, overcome difficulties”, and finally finished the competition smoothly and achieved good results.
