Recently, China Education Association for International Exchange announced the 139 universities, including SDUFE, have passed the 2020 Quality Certification Unit for Studying Abroad in China from Higher Education Institutions.
The Ministry of Education entrusted the China Education Association for International Exchange as a third party to evaluate improvement in the quality of studying in China under relevant national policies. It was also tasked to promote the quality and efficiency of studying in China and strengthen the“Study in China”brand to provide a professional reference for international students pursuing education in China. The China Education Association for International Exchange has launched the“Quality Certification Unit for Studying Abroad in China from Higher Education Institutions”since 2016. The certification activities conform to certain standards and rules and abide by the principles of“reasonableness, professionalism, objectivity, and fairness”. It has become a significant part of the country’s governance system for studying in China. Until March 2021, a total of 139 colleges and universities nationwide have been accredited, including 114 Chinese government scholarship colleges and 73 colleges and universities with“double first-class”construction initiatives.
SDUFE has enrolled international students since 1993, began academic education for international students in 2003, obtained the enrollment qualification of the“Shandong Provincial Government Scholarship for Foreign Students”in 2011, began enrolling graduate students in 2013, and set up an office of international students’affairs in 2016. In recent years, SDUFE“Study in China”project has achieved leap-forward development. The number of international students at the school has increased from over 50 to more than 500. In addition, the number of source countries of international students has also risen to more than 50. The training level has developed from language training to academic and non-academic education. Academic education covers 16 majors at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels.
SDUFE applied for the Quality Certification Unit for Studying Abroad in China at the end of 2019. Evaluation and construction were officially launched afterward. SDUFE has established the“Shandong University of Finance and Economics Quality Certification Work Leading Group for Studying in China”with the vice president in charge of foreign affairs as the team leader and heads in charge of relevant functional departments and units as members. It has held meetings to promote relevant works, solve vital issues and achieve remarkable results in helping to promote reform on conditions, teaching and practice, management and service of running the“Studying in China”project. In November 2020, the expert group of China Education Association for International Exchange came to SDUFE for a two-day on-site inspection.
Passing the quality certification will help promote the healthy and sustainable development of the SDUFE“Studying in China”project, improve SDUFE internationalization, and help the construction of a first-class characteristic financial university.
