SDUFE alumnus Wang Jiang appointed as new Bank of China President

Reported by Zhang Wei from Caijing.com, the Bank of China held a plenary meeting at 2:30 p.m. on December 2. Zhong Haidong, director of the fourth bureau of cadres of the central organization department, announced that Wang Jiang, vice governor of Jiangsu province and a member of the party leadership group of the provincial government, would become deputy secretary, vice chairman and president of the party committee of the Bank of China. Mr. Wang is expected to officially become Bank of China's new President, subject to the usual process of regulatory approval. After the selection of the President, the "three governors" of the bank of China, were made up, namely, Chairman Liu Liange, President Wang Jiang, and chief supervisor Wang Xichuan.

According to public information, Wang Jiang was born in July 1963 in Rushan, Shandong province. He received an on-the-job master's degree and a doctorate in economics. He joined the communist party of China in December 1983 and started work in July 1984. Some bankers use the word "legend" to describe Mr. Wang's previous experience.

From September 1980 to July 1984, Wang Jiang majored in finance in the finance department of Shandong University of Economics (now Shandong University of Finance and Economics or SDUFE); from July 1984 to September 1988, teaching assistant of finance department, Shandong University of Economics (during September 1986 to June 1987, teaching assistant of graduate department, Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics); September 1988 to May 1992: served as deputy director, director and lecturer of finance teaching and research office of Shandong University of Economics; from May 1992 to June 1999: deputy director and associate professor of Department of Finance, Shandong University of Economics (from August 1995 to September 1996, senior visiting scholar, School of Economics, Xiamen University; September 1996 to June 1999: studied in the Department of Finance of Xiamen University as a part-time doctoral candidate, and obtained the doctorate in economics.

From 1999 to 2015, Wang Jiang successively served as deputy director of credit risk management department of Shandong branch of China Construction Bank; President and party secretary of Shandong Dezhou branch of China construction bank; Vice President and party committee member of Shandong branch of China Construction Bank; Vice President and deputy secretary of the party committee of Shandong branch of China Construction Bank; Hubei branch of China Construction Bank; President and secretary of the CPC committee of Hubei Branch of China Construction Bank ( From April 2004 to October 2008, postdoctoral research station of applied economics, Liaoning University); Shanghai branch of China Construction Bank; President and party secretary of China Construction Bank Shanghai branch. In March 2015, Wang Jiang transferred from the Shanghai branch of China Construction Bank to the head office of the Bank of Communications, where he served as Vice president and party committee member, in charge of the corporate sector and international business.

"Working hard, excellent working ability, daring to employ people, stressing team harmony." A person from the Bank of Communications commented on Wang Jiang, "He is a good leader who can combine theory with practice." After 18 years in the banking industry and two years as a local vice-governor, Mr. Wang returned to the banking system, and Bank of China has received some envious looks from its peers as a result of his entry.
