On November 5, President Zhao Zhongxiu was invited by CGTN(China Global Television Network)for, a guest appearance on its program GlobalBusiness, where he talked about his views on topics including the opening of the second China International Import Expo(CIIE), challenges facing economic globalization and the significance of the French President's attendance at the Expo.

Since economic globalization has become an irreversible trend in the development of the world today, closer exchanges between countries inevitably bring about various challenges. How to establish mechanisms to resolve trade frictions and differences? In response, President Zhao quoted President XiJinping’s remarks in his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Expo. President Xi put forward three mechanisms: openness, innovation, and mutual benefit, and stressed the importance of building an open and cooperative world economy. Cooperation and transparency, regarded as the foundation of development, is to benefit all parties and create a mutually beneficial future. Currently, globalization offers global opportunities. The establishment of international industrial networks has forged a strong bond for the economic development of all countries, while technological innovation is the driving force of economic growth and can help us meet the challenges of globalization in the future.

Traditionally speaking, developing countries attach more importance to exports. While China, as the largest developing country, unexpectedly emphasizes the importance of imports. What is the root cause of this difference? As to this question, President Zhao pointed out that China has become the second-largest economy in the world whose domestic consumption is more than 50% and the world’s economic contribution over 70 %. On the one hand, China will take domestic consumption as the cornerstone of its further economic development, which has also created space for world economic development. On the other, increasing imports is also in line with China’s opening-up policy, and China shall not be complacent and conservative. That’s why China will import more high-quality products to improve people’s lives and promote higher-level development.

This year marks the 70thanniversary of the founding of new China and the 55thanniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic relationship. At this important historical juncture, it is of considerable significance for French President Macron to attend the expo as the chief guest. From President Zhao’s perspective, Macron's attendance will further strengthen the economic and trade ties between the two countries and further consolidate the foundation of bilateral cooperation. He stressed that French companies had played an active role in the long-term friendship and cooperation between China and France. Meanwhile, many industries in France, including manufacturing, automobiles, energy, food, and especially luxury goods, have large Chinese customers, while France's service sector, especially tourism, is booming because of the influx of Chinese tourists. Therefore, the bilateral trade and investment between China and France share the same basis, and the cooperation between the two sides has been very stable.
