About this Course 
Tai Chi is an introductory course that teaches the method of keeping and improving health and fitness. This course, Tai Chi is designed for the students who are interested in Chinese culture, Chinese martial arts and Tai Chi. The health-keeping of Tai Chi is a part of Chinese ancient culture. As a traditional Chinese sports event, it combines with physical activities, breathing expiration and inspiration, psychological adjustment and Chinese ancient philosophy. 
By the end of this course, students will improve their strength, endurance, speed, agility, flexibility and understanding of Chinese ancient philosophy. Students can also get some more relevant skills of Chinese martial arts due to the origin and development of Tai Chi.
Prerequisites and Preparation 
·         Good health and physical condition are required for this course. Please follow all the safety rules of your instructor.
·         This is a course designed for activities. If you cannot participate in activities at any level, then please withdraw from the course.
Course Goals 
After completing this course, students should have developed a range of skills enabling them to understand Tai Chi concepts and skills and use those to do some exercises to enhance physical health condition level.
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
·         Familiar with the basic skills of Tai Chi.
·         Know about the symbolize of Chinese philosophy—Yin and Yang.
·         Learn about the primary history of Chinese martial arts.
·         Develop the skills of applying Tai Chi movements to adjust mood and mental meditation.

·         Compare with Tai Chi and other sports 
·         The spread of Tai Chi around the world and the best way to promote Tai Chi all over the world
Deliverables and Grading 
Method of evaluation and grading: 
This course is evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis. To earn a P for the course, attendance is quite important. Throughout the semester you will be allowed three absences.
1Each demonstrate and seminar will count as 20% of the grade. Students who take well part in the demonstrate and seminar will get the score of this part. 
2There will be one midterm exam which count as 20% of the grade.
3There will also be a final exam or performance, which will be cumulative and cover all of the course materials. This will count as the remaining 40% of the grade.
