About this Course 
Chinese Economy   is an undergraduate course. The course is designed to let students understand the great changes in China in the past thirty years through its economic reforms and opening to the outside world, and China’s fast economic development.  The course is divided into three parts. Part one provides a general introduction to Chinese economy from historical perspectives. Part two deals with the process of China’s economic reforms and opening process. The last part turns to issues in China’s economic development in the past thirty years.
Prerequisites and Preparation 
Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and International Economics.
Course Goals 
After completing this course, students will be able to:
·         Demonstrate a sound understanding of China economic transition from command planning to Socialism with Chinese characteristics. 
·         Identify the major issues facing China today, and the major debates surrounding these issues.
·         Critically analyses, discuss and debate the academic and policy literature relating to China economic growth and development. 
·         Research and write critical analysis of key topics relating to the course.

Assigned Readings
Topical material and additional reading for class discussion may be assigned during the semester. 
Course Requirements and Grades
Class attendance is required. Students are required to read the textbook before each class, and are expected to actively participate in classes. The final course performance is based on the following weights:
1)Class participation: 10%.
2) Homework: 20%
3)Midterm exam: 30%.
4)Final exam 40%.
The midterm exam covers the first half of course materials. The final exam covers only materials after the midterm exam.
