About this Course 
CHINA’S ECONOMY AND FINANCIAL SYSTEM will provide the students with an overview of China’s macroeconomic aspects such as the policies (monetary and fiscal), the social security system, the mechanism concerning global economic and financial turbulence on China’s economic indicators like inflation, unemployment, economic growth, trade balance and RMB currency. China’s current economic issues especially after 2013 when China introduced the OBOR Initiative will be given particular attention. Topics that will be addressed include: I An overview of China’s Economy from 1949-2018; II Understanding of China’s Macro Economic Policies; III China’s Foreign Trade and Its Trade Relations with US, EU, Africa and some Asian Countries; IV China’s Financial System, Banking System and the Stock Market (Covering Foreign Banks in China and the RMB currency); V China Social Security System; VI China’s Labor Market survey and Its Educational System; VII China’s Tourism Industry. The format of the course includes lectures, discussions of assigned readings, visits to the local companies and Shandong TV Station. 
By the end of the course, the foreign students will understand how China’s macroeconomic policies to work on its economy. They will understand based on China’s OBOR strategy, what benefits would all the bordering countries gain in investment, employment and other factors. They can get a general understanding how China’s social security system to guarantee the employed, the old, the disabled as well as the children in many aspects. 
Prerequisites and Preparation 
Basic Economics.
Course Goals 
After completing this course, students should have an overall understanding China’s Macroeconomic Policies working on its Economy by probing into the economic issues in the current situations. The students will also grasp the ability to analyze China’s relations with the major global trade partners. They are also expected to understand the financial sectors involving the banking system, the financial market and the RMB currency.  
By the end of this course, the foreign students will be able to:
·         Understand how China’s macroeconomic policies to work on its economy. 
·         Understand how the economic structures in China to show impacts the financial market, the RMB Currency, the banking system
·         Understand based on China’s OBOR strategy, what benefits would all the bordering countries gain in investment, employment and other factors. 
·         Get a general understanding how China’s social security system to guarantee the employed, the old, the disabled as well as the children in many aspects.
·         Get to know what opportunities they could be faced with in the Tourism Industry in China.

Method of evaluation and grading: 
1There will be ppt presentations which will be individually graded. 
2There will individually allocated top issues for the students to work on from the beginning to the deadline settled. They will present a final paper based on the issue they choose relevant to the sectors lectured by the teacher.
